The historical background of broadcasting dates back to 1859 in the context of Nigeria structure.
The existence of broadcasting came before pre colonisation by the then British council.
Transmitting of information in Nigeria started through the then acclaimed newspaper referred as the Nigerian Press.
Iwe iroyin as popularly being referred back then was mainly for the south west indigenes who are the yoruba’s but the Egbas in general.
This was thus the first newspaper in the country which disseminate information about happening in the country and worldwide to its citizens.Iwe iroyin hit the news stand for the first time in December 3 1859 an has come to stay.
Reverend Henry Townsend was the first renowned journalist in Nigeria and went deeper by producing the ever acclaimed iwe iroyin mainly for the Egba indigenes which was also first published in November 23 1859 before hitting newsstand in December of same year.
Hajiya Bilkisu Yusuf was thus the first female journalist to exist in the history of Nigeria.She was a journalist for duo of Daily Trust and Leadership newspaper in Abuja upon arriving from wincosin – Madison and this earned her the prestigious first female editor with Sunday triumph in Kano and other prominent newspapers in Abuja and Kaduna between December 1952-September 24 2015.
She is mainly referred as wall of Great Africans.
