The National Examination Council (NECO) a body constituted by law was formed into existence in April 1999 to assist West African Examination Council in conducting of Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination in the country.

The National Examination Council conducts it’s examination in June/July every year respectively.

General Abdulsalam Abubakar. (RTD) and former Head Of State of the Federal Republic Of Nigeria created the body.

It was the first indigenous examination body that offered subsidised registration to aspiring candidates in Nigeria.

National Examination Council was authorised to take over the control and responsibilities of the National Board of Education Management (NBEM).

The first Examination to be conducted by National Examination Council took place in year 2000.

The National Examination Council has its establishing act.

After all these econiums about National Examination Council, it is noted that the body is not a recognised nor standard body.

The examination being conducted by National Examination Council in all sphere is accurate, fair.and concise.

It was created to assist candidates who could not make their results at first attempt to re-apply, co-ordinate and make good grades in order to assist in securing admission into tertiary institutions of their choice within the country.

It is a noted fact that some tertiary institutions in the country are rejecting the certificates being awarded to prospective candidates by the examination body

The yardstick used for measurement of nullification of these results is still unknown.

It’s true that it’s counterpart West African Examination Council (WAEC) Isa standardized and recognised body in the country.

It should also be noted that National Examination is also a body set up by an Act.

The criteria which is being used to judge the merit of candidates is still a mystery that need to be unravelled.

The Act states it as an examination board to conduct and test candidates ability and if its certificate is not recognised and accepted, the body should be nullified.

The conduct of the supervision of the examination of West African Examination Council and it’s related body National Examination Council is always supervised by teaching staffs from the Federal and State Secondary Schools whose Credibility can and cannot likewise be ascertained.

The conduct is measured by so many factors in all its facets both internal and external.

Lots of candidates are made to drop out of schooling activities as they cannot be admitted into their respective school of choice (Tertiary).

A joint admission and Matriculation Candidate who scored 270 and cannot be admitted on the basis that the result being tendered was that of the National Examination Council and not West African Examination Council is absurd.

The criteria which is used in measuring the credibility of the West African Examination Council results obtained by other candidates cannot be ascertained as at the time of this write-up except for the grading which qualifies the candidate.

The institutions are thus encouraging examination malpractices in its highest and modernised form.

The abolishment and scrapping of the examination should be put forward to the educational bodies

This is on the basis of the fact envisaged.

Candidates cannot be made to apply year in year out without any effect.

The National Examination Council cannot be assessing Students if they cannot fight for the credibility of the certificates being awarded by them to the candidates.

The country will thus remain lackside and backward if this situation is not put into consideration and proper measure and solution adopted.

It’s. Pertinent to note that corruption, laziness idleness and other vices need to be curbed.

The steps or modality being engaged isn’t the proper avenue or means.

Manipulation of assessing body of a country with over 120 million citizens which has 60percent of its population as youths should not be allowed if manipulation is to be eliminated.

The youths are being deprived and the implication is a deepening effect on the county’s economy.

The standard of professionals being produced cannot be verified.

The product from these professionals at the end cannot be equated.

The Government should allow more registered educational bodies to assess the capability and standard of these candidates.

The likes of Joint Admission and Matriculation Board has improved their standard of assessing candidates whose ability can fully be attested.

The principles or modalities adopted by these board should be adopted by other bodies to prove their candidates evaluation.

These students are being dehumanized to believe education is not the end result of professionalism and attainment of goals which needs to be accomplished.

A standardized and unified centre should be provided by these bodies.

The West African Examination Council and National Examination Council should provide facilities and centres where monitoring devices could be used to detect candidate or candidates who engage in examination malpractices.

Centres should be provided away from the school premises to enable proper assessment.

The credibility of these examining bodies can only be achieved at the fullest through this means adopted by Joint Admission And Matriculation Board.
