NIGERIA@60: HOW HAS IT IMPACTED ON ITS CITIZENS

Nigeria became independent in 1960 after its invasion by British Forces in Lagos 1851.

It went on to become British protectorate in 1901 until it became colonized in 1960.

The colonization by the colonial Masters led her to its independent state and becoming a republic after its re- written colonization in 1979.

The Nigerian flag was designed by Michael Taiwo Akikunmi in 1959 and was officially hosted in 1960 on its independence Day.

The Nigerian flag consist of three verticals

Green:. Natural Wealth (Resources)

White: Peace

Nigeria’s First National Anthem was composed by Lilian Jean Williams and Jonathan xuk in 1978 .

The translation into Music was done by Frances Berda and adopted in 1960.

“Nigeria We Hail Thee” was actually the first Nigerian National Anthem.

In 1978, Nigeria adopted the present National Anthem ” Arise ‘O Compatriot” which is in use till date.

Criticism was the reason for the abolishment of “Nigeria we Hail Thee”.

A National Competition was held for the purpose of choosing a new one.
