NIGERIA: AIRLIFTED CITIZENS TO PAY FOR AIR FARES AND ACCOMMODATION

The presidential Task Force on Vivid 19 on Monday issued a new protocol for the evacuation of Nigerians stranded abroad who are willing to return home.

Dr Sani Aliyu, The PTF Coordinator reeled out the details of the new guidelines during the daily press briefing by the panel in Abuja on Monday.

He also said that the Federal Government will no longer bear the cost of transportation and accommodation of intending evacuees when they return home.

Dr Sani Aliyu said it will no longer be sustainable for the Government to continue to bear the cost.

He further reiterated that the evacuees would be made to sign an undertaken that they will undergo PCR testing for Vivid 19 before boarding in from their countries of departure.

The returnees are to make arrangements for accommodation in Abuja or Lagos where they would self isolate for 14 days while a repeated test will be done within 72 hours of their arrival in Nigeria.

Dr Aliyu further explained that the evacuees must test negative for Vivid 19 before they would be allowed to board Nigeria – bound flight.

He also noted that there are over 4,000 Nigerians abroad willing to come back home and that the evacuees passports would be seized by Immigration Authorities for the 14 days period of their self isolation.

Dr Sani Aliyu stated that ” it is essential this time around that things are put right and also important that we make the best use of the public resources available to us so that we have an arrangement that is sustainable and would allow the over 4,000 Nigerians that are currently stranded outside the country to come in an join their families.
